Yamaha V-Max Handling:

Light Construction Technology for wheels.
The new Twin System Wheel developed by Lightcon especially for motorcycles, exemplifies a successful development of lightweight construction and strength. Essentially, it consists of two symmetrically built, ultra high-pressure cast halves, which are affixed around the center axis. Basically, the wheel is a rotating component, which at high speeds develops and is exposed to extreme forces. The reduction of the rotating mass is of great importance for many reasons:
- Improved acceleration and braking dynamic
- Reduced unsprung mass helps to improve safety and comfort
- Improved handling of the motorcycle
The procedure:
A decisive role is the structural integrity: the TSW-construction allows the arrangement of the spokes with a maximum supporting distance from each other. This creates a high bending strength of the wheel in spite of the fact that the spokes have in some areas a wall thickness of only 2mm. The two cast parts are affixed by electron-beam welding, an aerospace technique, that is used in the manufacture of the Ariane rocket engine.
The third innovation, which is introduced with TSW-wheel, is the sophisticated aluminum alloy. This alloy has been developed for the space frame technology of Audi cars and it is much more durable than other alloys used in the wheel manufacturing process. The spoke of a TSW-Wheel can be bent two times around its axis, before it breaks.
